Backups are definitely important. I now get my websites backed up and managed automatically (The joys of Wordpress) via Amazon AWS costs me about $5 a month in total, but having an offsite backup makes me feel a little more secure!

Having a backup might be #1 on the list of basic computing, sorry dude. For websites that are running on servers that could be comprised, even more important. In fact to make extra sure, my data is backed up daily, in three places, 3 different harddrives, and two different computers.

People say that's overkill. I say that's smart. Ask someone that just lost their website, their entire music collection, etc etc - they never make the same mistake twice.

No backup = no sympathy.

Hi there, you have my undivided attention as to how I might even hope to make a single cent and this is after 12 months of trying. I am sadly disillusioned with it all - maybe you could or would advise how I might go about making some changes! Many Thanks from one Yorkshireman
to another, but much much older ....

I had my website's FTP password stolen once, then somebody uploaded malware. That was a nightmare as well!

I had this happen to me once. More an annoyance than anything else. Now, I keep a copy of my index.html file (called index.old) in the root directory of my domains. Then it is just a straight swap when it happens again.

Thank you for great link building tips. I agree that link building process should be well thought. Not all the sites are worth to get links from. It often happens that webmaters forget about their sites and just focus at obtaining as much inbound links as possible. The website content does matter much. Informative, regularly updated website has more chances to be linked to than a low quality site.
