Using humour in your writing is a dangerous, yet well worthwhile aspect of a writers job. Humour itself can help to hold an audience, sell a product and bring in repeat visitors. It is infact one of the best ways to make people enjoy what you write.
The problem is of course that one mans Joke is another mans insult. Tastes differ geographically, culturally and with age. For this reason before you start trying to inject humour into your writing you must know your target audience.
If you start making jokes that offend your main target audience you will not only put off potential readers but you may also lose your current visitors.
It is also critically important, and I mean no offence when I say this, that you are funny. Trying to inject humour into writing is good, if it is infact humorous. Plenty of writers have failed miserably because their writing which was intended to be laugh out loud turned out to be cringe-worthy and pathetic when released to the public.
Of course if you do have the magic touch when it comes to writing humour with both discretion and taste, keeping your audience entertained and offending the least amount of people, well, you really don’t need to read this post. The truth is that humour is the number one seller on the Internet, if you have the gift use it!
Making light of a situation makes a website reader feel more at ease, meaning they are more likely to buy a product, be interested in your links and return to your site in future!
So for the funny people out there, we salute you.
