Today I was thinking to myself, and I had to ask the question ‘Why are so many people happy with having jobs?’
By jobs I mean working for someone else, usually for the entirety of your useful life. Why should we spend all our time working for other people when in reality we can quite easily work for ourselves?
Working for other people comes with several downsides, all of which can easily be avoided.
1) Only getting paid for when you work.
When you work for a company you only get paid for when you actually work. This may seem quite obvious and normal to you, but it is infact social conditioning and does not really make any sense.
A lot of people, authors, writers, share dealers and the majority or people who own companies make money 24/7 for doing nothing.
Hell, I only just realised what I was doing wrong, and have started my path to working for myself, already after 2 months I get $10 a day for doing absolutely nothing!
The trick is to do things that have Consistent Value, when I write one article it is read thousands of times every month, each time it brings me in just a little bit more money. The more articles I write the more money I make!
2) Work When You Want
I don’t know about you but I find waking up at 7am every morning a real drag, not only that but I prefer working later at night. As I bring myself closer and closer to my goal of working for myself I am looking forward to working the hours I want.
Then there is Holidays, I could do my office job anywhere, but the chances of it happening? pretty much nill.
When you are working for yourself the entire world is your office. Fancy visiting Munich, Amsterdam, Venice or London? All you need is an Internet connection, hell go to France or Germany and you have one in any MacDonalds.
And the great thing about residual income is that even if you go somewhere were Internet access is scarce you will still be making money, I have a couple of websites now that I never update and still regularly bring in $40 - $50 a month without any problem.
3) Having a Boss
Now there are many types of bosses in the world, there are good and bad, mine is fortunately a good boss, he gives me leave, is not too strict and lets me work in a bit of flexi time when I need it.
Unfortunately not all bosses are like that and the only boss you should ever really have is yourself.
4) Working For an Employer is Stable
This is one of life’s great misconceptions. Sure there is redundancy pay if the worst happens but at any moment you could get the can and all most people would get is a months pay and a firm handshake goodbye.
When you work for yourself you get out exactly what you put in. You can get work amazingly easily just by browsing the Internet, and you can do it anywhere in the world, my favorite office is down by the river with my laptop!
And once you have a revenue stream coming in, providing you with residual income that never ends you will find out that the stability of working for someone else is infact a myth.
6) Make the Most of Your Money
When you work for a company you may not realise how much you are actually losing to the Government, the taxes taken from you straight off usually take off nearly a quarter of your wage, what many people don’t realise is that your company also has to pay another quarter ontop of that. To your employer you are actually earning 25% more than you receive in your pay packet. All this is depressing considering when working as a sole trader taxes are not only very simple but also much much less!
7) Experience
When you first leave for the world of work you get told Experience is important. Whether you are from University, College or School you will be told Experience is important for the field you want to work in.
But Experience takes years to gain, and comes more from experiencing many different things rather than just one sole thing. You are not judged on skills you acquire, most of which become obsolete after a few years, you are judged on your vocabulary, your personality, ability to perceive exactly what is going on and your level headedness.
Surprisingly most of this comes from socialising and experiencing new countries and places. Something you rarely get working for other people.
Experience is where you find it, assuming you are learning by filing and filling in a database is simply proving that you are not gaining any experience, you are the bumbling fool that is taking jobs that amount to nothing.
